Mattox's Missed Sweet 16

 Mattox,

You just turned 16! Year 15-16 was good, as I recall. You finished 9th grade and made good grades. You are playing all the sports at school and you have friends. You had your first girlfriend, Kaylee Likens. It didn't last long and you both seemed very hesitant. Oh well, I keep telling you there will be many girls in your path. You are kind and intelligent and very handsome.

I spent many hours stalking the DMV website so that I could get an appointment for you to get your license on your actual birthday. We drove across town and off you went to do the driving part. I did NOT think you were going to pass. The lady said that you forgot to stay in the right hand lane when you turned onto a different street. You almost didn't pass. But you did! Dad and I got you a car. An old CRV. It's perfect for you.

This summer, you also got your first job at Showmars. You seem to really like it and have continued to work throughout the school year.

I am so proud of the man you are becoming. It's hard to believe and accept that you are almost 18. I love you so much. I pray you can be a light in this dark and hateful world. I pray most of all you learn to yield to God's calling, each and every day.

Thanks for being such an amazing son.

Love always.

Mom
